This book is definitely a keeper.... (1/12/2007)

"Great educational mystery novel, I enjoyed reading it just as much
as my 10 year old son, we both enjoyed it even though mystery novels are
not his genre, they are mine! Highly recommended for family or classroom
reading. Looking forward to more books from this author."
As reviewed by
Joyce Rice of Lake Worth, FL (5/1/2007): "As a 30
year veteran of children's literature, I recommend this book for reading
together or as a class project. Not only will students enjoy the
characterization of Emma, Maddie and Michael, but they will also learn
about the geographics of the setting of the story. Readers will be eager
to be just one step ahead of the adventure-seeking trio. This is a series
to take note of for middle readers. A great effort for a beginning author."

As reviewed by Cheryl White, Library Media Specialist:
"It is my pleasure to recommend Liz Shore's novel, A Key Keepers
Mystery: The Game Begins. From the first pages, I was caught in
the mystery of Uncle Jack's deathbed revelations to his great-niece,
Emma. Her mother, Nanette, is a professional who has little time for
fun with her daughter and barely arrives at Uncle Jack's bedside to hear
his last words. Life changes drastically for the mother and daughter
as Uncle Jack's will reveals a new direction for Nanette as a full-time
caregiver . . . . With the use of dialogue and adventure, the author keeps
the reader's attention and interest. Emma, Madeline, and Michael are
individuals with the emotions and imaginations of children today.
Even their plan to pursue the solution to the mystery by flying to a
deserted island by tricking Nanette . . . is believable and entices the
reader to keep reading! An added bonus to the mystery story is the
author's use of geographical and historical descriptions throughout the
novel. The reader will learn about St. Augustine, the Everglades,
and Key West. An introduction to Ernest Hemingway and his cats could
even provide the interest to learn more about one of America's greatest
authors. As an elementary school library media specialist, I know
how students love a mystery story and how difficult it can be to provide
exciting and well-written books. Liz Shore's first novel is one the
students should enjoy. I believe they will keep asking for more
about the adventures of Emma, Madeline, and Michael."

Caitlyn Dlouhy, Senior Editor for Atheneum Books for Young Readers: "I
read your manuscript with interest, and while I'm sorry to say that this
particular piece isn't right for our list here at Atheneum, I did enjoy
your writing and would be glad to look at other work from you in the
future. I was glad for the opportunity to consider your work, and it
is with regret that I am passing on this project."
As reviewed by
Phoebe Roy of Silver Dagger Mysteries: "It is extremely
well written and very interesting. The plot was exciting and the
characters were very interesting."

"I read your book this past weekend and couldn't put it
down. It is terrific!!!!! I am so impressed with how the
mystery and history was intertwined. I was surprised with [the
ending]- I didn't see it coming. It is a very clever concept and the
way you ended the book to lead to another one is great. Although it
is written for kids, I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult. Oh to be a
teacher in Florida......."

"I thoroughly enjoyed your book. I read the book in a week. I
couldn’t put it down. I’m ready to find out what happens next!"
As reviewed by reader, S. Roberts (10/3/2006): "Congratulations
on a job well done. I hope you plan to write another one . . . . I've
lived in Florida all my life and you taught me several things I did not
know. Another confession: I've never been to Key
West . . . . We will get there one of these days and because of
your book I will appreciate the trip all the more. "
As reviewed by ETSU instructor of School Library
Media,
C. Hasbrouck (10/1/2006): "I read the book...straight
through with just a break to fix something to eat. Very
readable!!!!"
One parent writes
(1/30/07): "My son enjoyed your book immensely. He was
telling people at church about it and how cool it was. I'm
expecting it to be great given how it kept his attention. He's
never been big on reading but lately that seems to be changing for
the better! "
As reviewed by
reader, Virginia McLean (1/31/07): "The Game Begins
is well written and expertly researched, combining clarity, humor,
human interest, and suspense--highly recommended for children and adults."
Kayla S., a former student writes (2/4/07): " I
loved your book so much I remembered every detail. Well almost. I'm so
proud of you!! Did you know I never liked reading until 4th grade? Your
book inspired me to keep reading and to love books. We still have to do
AR in 6th grade and my AR goal is the highest on Bear Hall. We are so
very proud of you."
As reviewed by K. Hendley of the North
Brevard Home School Association (3/19/07): "I thoroughly
enjoyed your book. I read it in two evenings. I loved the
way the children all found a common bond and began to work
together. You kept me guessing until the very end. I kept
wondering how you were going to conclude the story and tie up the loose
ends. You wrapped up enough of the details that I was very
satisfied but can say that I am looking forward to the next
adventure."
Reader Rebecca K. writes (3/30/07):
"I absolutely loved your book. The way you kept the suspense up . .
. until the end was great. Half the time I couldn't put down the
book! It was so weird. I was in Florida while I read that
book, and I learned where the keys are!!"
Reader Lauren M. from St. Cloud, FL,
writes (11/5/07): "I loved the book. It was better
than The Harry Potter Books (she read all of them). The reason
your book was better was because it was modern and could happen."
(note from mom: she stayed up to 2 a.m. to finish it!)
