smugglers

Emma found a way to take apart the sunclock.  She found a very important clue inside but hasn’t shared this new information with anyone yet.  Someone then smuggled the sunclock out of Emma’s room to see if it held more clues to the where-abouts of Uncle Jack’s treasures.  Who was it?  What did they use to smuggle it out of her room?  Where have they hidden it?  It is up to you to help Emma find it.

This game is played just like Clue.  If you don't know the rules, go here to read them before playing.

Teachers, if your whole class wants to play, you can make a large game board, or if only a few children wish to play, you can adapt a Clue game board and make your own set of cards.  If you choose to make a large game board, you can assign six children to be the characters.  Each one should wear a name tag.  Then six more children can be responsible for moving around the items used to smuggle the clock out of Emma's room.  You can use real objects for those items.  See the list of names and items below.

To make a large game board, students can draw and label nine posters with the names of the rooms.  Be sure to draw the open doors and mark the secret passageways in the corner rooms.  If you want to test their comprehension skills, have them use clues from the story to draw the interior of those rooms.  The staircase, foyer, library, and parlor are described in the book on pp. 21-27, 31-35, 43-44, 46, 62-66, 80-83.  Then laminate the posters if you wish to use them again.  To link the rooms, use laminated construction paper.  You might not want to make as many squares as the actual game board has.  If you do this, just use one dice to roll the number of moves.  If your classroom is tiled, you can count each tile as a move on the game board.

The rest of the students can work in teams to find out what three cards are in the envelope.
